National Skills Week 2023

24/08/2023

As part of National Skills Week, we would like to introduce Rhiannon, one of our valued apprentices. Growth Civil Landscapes is proud to be instrumental in the career development and progression of apprentices through vocational training.

Currently in her first year at TAFE, Rhiannon is undertaking Certificate III in Landscape Construction whilst working at Growth Civil Landscapes. Rhiannon has commented she really enjoys combining her vocational studies at TAFE with using her skills on the job while working on the Bayview Park, Concord for City of Canada Bay Council.

Rhiannon says she enjoys working with the project team at Growth Civil Landscapes as “everyone makes me feel welcomed and included, giving me a chance to learn and build my skills.” She also likes working in the Landscape industry because ”there are a lot of different building components that I’m interested in learning like levels, drainage, paving and concreting. I really like being outdoors, building and creating things for others to enjoy.”

Looking to the future, Rhiannon is keen to learn how to operate the excavator efficiently and to obtain heavy machinery licenses. She says, “I would also like to show and teach others the skills and techniques that I will have learnt in my experiences as well as being capable of achieving quality work for others and personal projects.”

Rhiannon’s message to those considering getting an apprenticeship and working in the Landscape industry is “give it a go, learn some good skills and get qualifications by the end. You will develop good problem-solving skills that come in handy around the house and your mates will love you for having the knowledge to give them a great entertainment area! It also gives you the satisfaction of being a part of a team building a space for people.”

Growth Civil Landscapes proactively offers our employees additional training with external training organisations including machinery tickets, professional development, first aid courses, etc, supporting our workers to be skilled for their futures with gaining industry qualifications and hands on experience. We are delighted to highlight the skills and talents that our apprentices, such as Rhiannon, have!
