National Skills Week and Apprentices

Growth Civil Landscapes strongly believes in the importance of apprentices and is proud to be instrumental in their career development and progression.

As part of National Skills Week, we would like to introduce Alexander, one of our valued apprentices. Currently in his second year at Padstow TAFE, Alex is undertaking Certificate III in Landscape Construction whilst working at Growth Civil Landscapes. Alex has commented he really enjoys combining his vocational studies at TAFE with using his skills, such as paving, on the job while working on the QMS Replacement of Street Furniture Assets for City of Sydney Council in the Sydney CBD and inner-city suburbs.

Alex says he enjoys working with the project team at Growth Civil Landscapes (who jest that he resembles Keanu Reeves!) and learning new skills from them and obtaining his First Aid Certificate since starting employment with us. He likes working in the Landscape industry because he prefers working outside and creating usable spaces for the community. Looking to the future, Alex is keen to finish his apprenticeship, continue gaining on the job experience as well as learn to use and gain tickets for different machinery in his Landscape career.

Alex’s message to those considering working in the Landscape industry is if you like working outside and using your hands to create things, this could be the career you’re looking for! If high school students are thinking of getting an apprenticeship, Alex recommends starting early to get as much experience as you can.

Growth Civil Landscapes proactively offer our employees additional training with external training organisations including machinery tickets, professional development, first aid courses, etc, supporting our workers to be skilled for their futures with gaining industry qualifications and hands on experience. We are delighted to highlight the skills and talents that our apprentices, such as Alex, have!
