Popular All-Abilities Playground

DEERBUSH PARK ALL-ABILITIES PLAYGROUND
Fairfield City Council

Deerbush Park All-Abilities Playground at Prairiewood was officially opened by the Fairfield Mayor, Frank Carbone, together with Councillors, on Sunday 13 June 2021. The opening, extensively covered by the press with reports on Ch 7, 9 and 10 News, welcomed local residents and invited the community to enjoy the new playground. Managing Director of Growth Civil Landscapes, Glenn Simpson, was proud to be present for the opening and was interviewed by Ch 9 TV reporter, Mike Dalton.

Voted by Timeout in ‘The 18 Best Playgrounds in Sydney’ in July 2021, Deerbush Park All-Abilities Playground at Fairfield ranked 7th place. Timeout says ‘Sydney’s first all-abilities playground is fun for everyone’. The large-scale Park, located at Fairfield Showground, comprises several areas including a playground, splash pad water play area, outdoor gym and walking path network.

The 3 exhilarating playzones within this extensive Playground are sure to be a major drawcard. The inclusive Playground includes a Liberty Swing to allow children in wheelchairs to swing in safety, a carousel, ground-level trampoline, and Exeloo public toilet. Providing a range of stimulating activities for children of all ages and abilities, it also encompasses a ground-level ropes course, flying fox, learn to ride bike track, accessible riverbed crossing, water pump, climbing net fort with slide as well as digger and voice tubes. Installation of picnic tables and bench seating, boardwalks, sandstone walls and fencing were also part of the works undertaken on this project together with additional trees and landscaping.

A special inclusion is an accessible splash pad which includes 13 unique above-ground squirters and numerous ground-level bubblers - the first for a public playground in Fairfield City. The water play space will be open in warmer months and all water will be recycled and treated to the same quality as pool water.

Adults can also enjoy the park, with new outdoor gym equipment. The Park is connected to the Showground’s new path network, which provides access to all of the Showground’s facilities as well as an enjoyable exercise option for walkers, cyclists and wheelchairs.

We are very proud to announce that this project has WON 2 AWARDS! Growth Civil Landscapes won a GOLD AWARD from The Landscape Association NSW/ACT for Commercial and Civil Construction $3m + for this project at the 2022 Landscape Excellence Awards! We are also thrilled to announce that our constructed project, Deerbush Park All-Abilities Playground at Prairiewood, has won the 2022 AILA Landscape Architecture Award for Play Spaces!

Undertaken on behalf of Fairfield City Council, which saw completion in June 2021, the AILA jury commented:
“This project has delivered an impressive legacy for Fairfield City and celebrates the cultural diversity of the area, significant native vegetation, and the notion of play for all ages and abilities. A sophisticated weaving together of multiple all-abilities play elements through protected Cumberland Plain woodland has created a rich journey of active experiences blending well with its natural environment and creating a ‘Place for Everyone’.
