A Time for Reflection & Remembrance

Cenotaph Relocation and Landscaping Works, Berryman Reserve
Liverpool City Council

The Cenotaph is a War Memorial designed by an external artist in consultation with the local community of Liverpool, and comprises a series of columns representing the conflicts which Australia has been involved in.

The premise of the design is that at 11:00am, on the 11th day, of the 11th month – Remembrance Day, the shadows cast by pieces of a fallen column link to create an unbroken shadow.

Simply humbled and an honour to have been invited to recreate such an important, symbolic and memorable piece of our Australian history!

The Project entailed transportation, relocation, restoration and installation of the Cenotaph monument, together with earthworks, footings construction, concrete edging and features, installation of turf and plants.  The precise installation of the Monument was key, ensuring retention of the original configuration, and achievement of its artistic intent on 11 November each year.

The monument was originally dedicated on 2 December 1994 and formerly installed at Macquarie Mall, Liverpool, however required relocation due to upgrade works. The Berryman Reserve in Warwick Farm was approved as the location for the rededication of the Cenotaph and Growth Civil Landscapes were commissioned to undertake the works.
