WW1 Memorial Unveiled

PEACE PARK, SUTHERLAND
Sutherland Shire Council

The new memorial remembering those who served in WW1 was unveiled at Peace Park in Sutherland on the eve of Remembrance Day, November 10, 2019.  The memorial is a lasting and fitting tribute to the sacrifices made by those from the Sutherland Shire.  It was the culmination of the efforts of the many dedicated individuals who made the memorial possible including two local historians who compiled the 498 names remembered as part of the memorial, project coordination by members of the Hughes Centenary of Armistice Commemoration Committee and Sutherland Shire Council.

Project works included expanding the memorial zone and constructing a high blockwork memorial, installing a new granite paving area, new uplighting, sandstone edging and installation of new plants.

It was an honour to be part of this small but nevertheless important project in our local area to remember those Australians who fought for our freedoms during WW1.
